This 1997 Ford F150 needs the GEM module changed due to multiple conditions. To see testing that lead to this repair please click here. The GEM module is located at the rear of the interior fuse box.
The first step is to remove the trim panel that covers the gap between the upper side of the steering column and the dash. It just unsnaps from the dash. It makes it a little easier to remove if you move the shifter all the way down to drive 1.
With that out of the way the lower dash cover can now be removed. Most of the screws have 7 mm heads but there are two that have 8 mm heads.
Those two are at the lower edge of the fuse box.
One wiring harness needs to be disconnected from the panel.
Now the screws for the fuse box can be removed.
The wiring harnesses can be removed from the back of the fuse box. Two 10 mm headed bolts at the center of each connector.
Next remove the tube brace from around the bottom of the steering column. Four fasteners with 13 mm heads.
Now wiggle, pry and twist the fuse box and GEM module assembly down.
After the assembly is down far enough unplug the remaining harness connectors from the GEM module.
Almost there.
The assembly is now free of the vehicle.
The GEM module is held to the back of the fuse box by three phillips headed screws.
Easy to remove Now.
With the three screws removed the GEM unplugs from the back of the fuse box.
I put it all back together and checked my repair for power to the driver’s power window switch.
Ok, I checked the under the hood fuse #110 terminal and it has power but the #30 terminal on the relay does not have power…So I am still stumped haha and I appreciate all the help that you are providing me with
Power is supplied on the light blue/black wire from the accessory delay relay (relay terminal #87) in the under dash fuse box. Fuse #110 in the under hood fuse box supplies power to terminal #30 of the accessory delay relay. Terminal #85 is grounded by the GEM and terminal #86 is powered by the battery saver relay.
Yes, I applied power to the junction and then both the passenger and driver side windows started to work. There is just not any power coming down that light blue/black wire from where ever it is connected.
I just want to confirm that you jumped power to the light blue/black wire at the interior junction point at the park brake assembly area? Both windows worked fine from that jump point?
Hey Sparky my name is Frank and I have a 99 Ford F150 and the power windows aren’t working. I have replaced the GEM and still they do not work. I took a light test like in your picture to the light blue and black wire and there is no power going to the that wire. I did find that the wire is located in the rocker panel area just underneath the emergency parking brake pedal where it is grouped on a plug and if I apply power there the windows work on both the passenger and driver side oh I did test the to see if the passenger side plug on the master switch had power and it does just not the light blue / black wire. I have also replaced the master switch and that did not help. I have no idea where that wire goes to I tried tracing it back to its source on the whirring harness but there is just not enough room and too much tape haha.
