This 2003 Chevrolet Silverado came in with both daytime running lights inoperative. In order to access the DRL bulbs the headlight assembly has to be removed first. It is pretty simple. Locate the retaining pin and lift up the lever.
With the lever lifted up the pin can be slid out towards the center of the grill.
Now that the pin is removed the headlight assembly can be tilted forward.
Once the assembly is far enough out the wires can be disconnected from the bulbs.
All right now the headlight assembly is out of the way you can access the DRL socket from the rear of the lower light assembly. However it is pretty easy most of the time to just depress the latch at the outer edge of the light assembly.
I am using a screw driver to depress the latch and then the assembly will come out quite easily.
I removed the socket from the lens assembly with the intention of just replacing the bulb but I found that the socket was damaged, burnt out.
I spliced in a new 4184 socket assembly. Installed a new bulb, placed the socket back into the light assembly and reassembled the truck. Another one fixed.
To order this socket please click here.
You have let me realize that I did not put enough information on actually splicing in the new socket. There has been some confusion so I have added another post on that subject.

Thanks, saved me from buying a manual just to change bulbs.
I’ve enjoyed this exchange but feel that I’ve learned enough, coupled with repair manuals to handle future lighting problems. Thanks, Sparky, its been a pleasure for me to learn here. ed
Hi Tom,
You will have one of several problems. Poor connection at right turn signal wiring on dark blue wire. Loose or broken wires under the underhood junction block. Faulty turn signal switch or a faulty Daytime Running Light module. If there is no power at the dark blue wire at the light, I would locate the daytime running light module. It shows that it should have 6 wires. However the diagram that I am looking at could only show the wires that are related to the turn signals. terminal “A” orange battery power, terminal “B” light blue Lft turn out, terminal “E” light blue/white lft turn signal in, terminal “H” brown exit light control, termina “C” dark blue rt turn signal out, terminal “G” dark blue/white right turn signal in. Hope this give you enough info.
I have a 1997 Chevrolet Venture with Right Turn Signal (low beam) not turning on. I have swapped the left turn signal socket and bulb to the right side and the turn signal on the right was still not working. The left one that came from the right side was okay. I have also tried changing the combination flasher under dash, but the problem was still there. All lamps (rear and front) are working okay. Please help. Thanks, Tom
There were two different types of headlights on a 96. Do you have two sealed beam bulbs or quad lights with 4 bulb inserts? Do you have a test light or voltmeter? Please reply to Email address.
