2004 Buick Rendezvous, Turn Signals and Hazard Lights Inop

This 2004 Buick Rendezvous came in with a complaint that the turn signals and hazard lights would not work. The customer stated that the problem occurred shortly after backing a boat in the water. I started by checking to see which fuses were involved and located the fuse box on the passenger side of the center console.

While I am here I decided to point out the flasher unit (turn signals and hazards)

Fuse number 19 for the turn signals.

Fuse #40 for the hazards. The fuse was blown and replacing it brought all of the lights back to work. Apparently the flasher is set up so that if the hazard fuse blows you will lose both hazards and turn signals.

Since the customer had mentioned about backing a boat trailer, I decided to look at the harness for the trailer. Pretty clear to see why the fuse blew. The green wire is for right turn and stoplight. The white wire is ground.

  1. Thanks much! My wife complained her turn signals quit. Since the hazards are rarely used I didn’t know they were out also and wasn’t thinking like I should have (that the hazard and turn signal uses the same flasher unit which is why they are connected). I had checked the turn signal fuse and it was good and my suspicions turned to the stalk switch. Found this while looking for a wiring diagram and it saved me a bunch of time and headache.

BTW, the cruise control also quits with a blown hazard fuse.

  2. Sir, thanks so much for the fix!

Last month I had the BCM and wiring replaced in my ’03 Rendezvous ($900). Thursday morning my turn signals and hazards stopped working.

First thing Friday, i took it to GM since it was still under the repair warranty. Got a call 8 hours later, the tech could not figure out what the issue was, he tried replacing the relay, multifunction switch, tested the BCM and checked the wiring from fuses and the steering column. They said the tech is off until Monday and if i wanted the vehicle back I could have it, I picked it up.

I literally spent 10 seconds on google before I found Sparkys solution, i pulled the havard fuse and it was clearly blown, i swapped for anothe 10 amp and all signals/hazards are working. THANKS SO MUCH!

  3. Thanks a ton! Quick google search for no blinkers on my Rendezvous and found this article. Great photos and explanation. Now I need a new fuse so I can listen to my radio again… made the switch with that one for now.

  4. This was awesome. Great pictures too for those of us who are totally confused by the owner’s manual. The owner’s manual leads you to believe that it is the ‘dealer item’ a previouse poster noted.
Thank you so much for the help.

  5. OMG. Thank you so much. I have a Uhaul towing package on my car. The other weekend, I got a unhaul trailer, and ever since they “plugged it up” it killed my blinkers..I didn’t even notice it originally. I thought it was odd they weren’t blinking from inside the vehicle, but I assumed that it was just inside. No WONDER everybody on the highway was mad at me when I was changing lanes! How dangerous.

I assumed it was a fuse or something, but when I went to AutoZone, they only told me to replace the blinker one (but didn’t tell me/show me if it was blown, or not. turns out it wasn’t). It didn’t fix the problem. They said it was the BIG flasher one, but that that was a dealer item so they couldn’t help me. Damn, I didn’t want to go to GM. No money for that.

I Googled it, saw a few forums, then found your site. I went back to Autozone and pulled out the fuse–which now, I recognize to be burned out (unlike the blinker one). Replaced it and voila!!!! $10 in total.
