The previous post on replacing the daytime running light sockets on a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado has detail about how to get to the socket but did not have much about how to splice in the new socket. The upper set of contacts in the picture below are burnt and are the reason for the socket replacement. Double click on the picture for a better view.
Unwrap the tape at the end of the split loom.
Open the seam on the split loom and pull the wires out. Cut and splice one wire at a time. Although the replacement wires are all white, order is important.
Stagger the splice joints.
Use a heat source and shrink the tubing in place.
Pull the split loom back over the wiring and finish with tape. To order this socket please click here.
I would start by checking the DRL fuse and relay in the underhood fuse box. Remember the DRL’s are activated when the key is on, the transmission is in gear, it is determined to be daylight and the parking brake is not on. It is best to have an assistant you trust with your life when checking this system due to the above conditions needed for activation.
Hi i have a 06 silverado and the DRLs will not come on I have replaced the bulbs and the sockets are a little heat deformed but not to the extent yours were can you please throw out some other ideas?
Thanks
D
The two parts are not supposed to separate. Your did because of over heating. Unless you want to buy 10,000 of them, the component parts are not available.
Great site, Sparky. My 2002 Sierra had this problem but appears to have a two-art DRL socket. The inner socket that holds the bulb plugs into the outer by way of two metal prongs. This inner socket is what is scorched on my truck. It appears that this is different from your diagram. I am going to check to see if they are avail as separates since the outer socket is ok. Any thoughts?
