I have a 2003 GMC and the does not work on any speed and the ABS light is binging away. I followed all instruction provided by Spark’s Answers to a tee. There is no power at the 10amp/30amp fuses, no power on the orange at the ignition, no power to the orange wire. I inspected both female terminals on the orange wire the is no signs of damage due to heat and no discoloration. I ran a ohm test on the orange wire no resistance tested good. I inspected the fuse block male terminals also no signs heat damage. Actually all wires and terminals look factory new. Please help, I have no AC and it 104 here in California

The large orange wire at terminal G at the ignition switch connector is powered from the red wire at terminal F by activating the ignition switch. Since the red wire also plays a role in starting the engine we have to assume it is okay.  The engine does start and run, correct?

I am assuming that you have replaced the ignition switch and have it properly timed. There was no mention of this in your explanation.

You can see the circuits in the attached diagram.

No I had not replaced the ignition switch because the repair article index said to check the 10amp/30amp then go to the orange wire at the ignition switch. The index stated that If the orange wire had no power at the ignition switch it (wasn’t) the ignition switch. After following the repair index to a tee and finding no heat damage (melting) or discoloration of the wiring and fuse block I stripe the wiring harness of all the electrical tape going from the ignition switch to the fuse block. I found the orange wire and isolated it checking for any damage or discoloration though out the wire. I then ran a continuity test no problem there either. After all this frustration I did decided to check the ignition switch (remember the article index said that if there is no power on the orange wire, at the ignition switch, the ignition switch was not the problem ) I then found the red wire on the ignition switch using two strait pin I put one pin in the red wire at the ignition switch and one pin on the orange wire at the ignition switch. Then using a jumper wire I turn on the AC and everything worked also the ABS and checked brakes lights went out. I then bought a new ignition switch and time it again everything working like it should. I think it would be a good idea to mention this in your repair index somewhere in the beginning it would be very helpful and save a lot of time and frustration. I want to thank you for all your help, I learn a lot about trouble shooting. Thanks again Michael G., PS do you have any repair index on how to remove&replace a broken spring on a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 shifter lever, it’s the small spring that hold the lever up toward the dash.

I for got to mention that the engine starts and ran no problem

Can you tell me which article you read?

The first article stated that I found power on the orange wire so I knew that the ignition switch was okay.

The second article stated that there was no power on the orange wire and therefore the ignition switch was faulty.

I would be happy to add some clarity to either article but I need to know which article you were reading.

Thanks, Sparky

Thanks for your input. I have added more information to clarify the testing procedure for both having and not having power on the orange wire at the ignition switch.
