I have 2001 gmc Jimmy with multiple component failures. Symptoms: dome light for drivers door does not turn on upon opening drivers door. Symptom 2 the headlamp switch with dash light dimmer doesn’t turn on some either.

I tested for power at all locations and no power. Park lamp fuse us fine and illuminating fuse is fine. Did visual inspection of headlight switch and did not see any obvious signs of malfunctioning. The illuminating blue bulb in the switch is blown. Does the bulb need to function to complete the circuit?

The bulb in the headlight switch does not need to work for the system to operate. The dome lights are supplied power from the courtesy fuse and ground from the courtesy lamp relay controlled the BCM.

There is a dome light override switch on the headlight switch assembly. That switch has not been activated has it?

No the dome light switch in the non overuse position. Out. Failed to mention 2 other components that weren’t functional. The rear hatch switch on dash and the hood lamp. Also the passenger side dome lamp switch has no connector on it. It appears previous owner pulled it out. I see a black ground lying naked under carpet but no oranges positive or connector. Very suspicious that the back is the culprit. All fuses are good.

Courtesy lamp fuse supplies power to the inadvertent power lamp relay. The relay is in the body relay block, left side of the dash, right of the instrument panel fuse box. The attached wiring diagram may help but looks like you really should use a scan tool to test the system with.

Yes I think the Bcm is the culprit. Going to order pigtail for door jamb switch and make harness repair and take to dealership. Thank you for feedback and diagram. I see the BCM is intertwined with each component I am experiencing issues.
