My brake lights aren’t working. Ive replaced the brake switch. Found a broken ground at the rear were the 4 pin plug connects to the y splitter for the tail lights. Turn signals work running lights work but no stoplights. When I fixed the ground wire it poped the fuse for the stop lights. Any suggestions?

I would start by determining if you incorrectly connected the wrong wire to ground or if there is a short on the wire you connected to. I have included a diagram and an article on a similar vehicle that may give you some insight into the system.

I just got the truck when I I tested the white wire at the rear on the main harness to the ground it had continuity. But when i grounded it off and push the brakes it blew the fuse I put a temp jumper in the fuse panel and pushed the brakes again and all the wires to the brake switch got hot so I stoped their I’m at a loss ive tested all the relays and grounds all test good powers is coming out the relay but not making it to the tail lights the 3rd brake light works but not the rear I seen the right up you posted and followed it to the t and all is good

The white wire you attached to ground is more likely a faded yellow wire for the brake lights.

Theirs 4 wires going to the plug brown yellow light green and a dark green. Then theirs the white wire or yellow wire thats not connected to any thing.

Leave that wire disconnected. Attach a test light or volt meter to it and see if there is power when you depress the brake pedal.

Heres what I just done I hooked that wire to the yellow wire on the plug left brake light works not the right. It has the wiring going back for a 7 pin trailer plug but are disconnected.

The wire does send power when brakes are pressed.

Connecting the wire the way that you did bypasses the turn signal switch. Look over the wiring diagram I supplied earlier. Then check for the input signal from the brake light relay at the turn signal switch connector. It should be a white wire. Depress the brake pedal and see if it has power.

If it does not then you need to find the break between the brake light relay and the turn signal switch.

If it does you will need to check the outputs from the turn signal switch on the green and yellow wires.

Is it the same white wire you were talking about in your write up?

Yes, the discussion starts around the third picture.
