Which of the 2 orange wires should have power?

Sparky

Depends on what kind of vehicle you have? I am assuming from the article I have written and your brief description it is a GM truck or SUV?

According to the diagrams there should only be one orange wire. Regardless the one that needs to be tested is at position “G” of the ignition switch harness connector. It will be a large twelve gauge wire.

The orange wire from the ignition to the drivers side fuse block doesn’t have power.
I’m going to try to replace the ignition switch

Should I remove the neg batt cable first?

Sparky

You can and all of the repair manuals always state to do that first. I personally do not because I don’t want to lose stored memory in various computer systems.

Break lights off
Still no ac

Now that power has been restored you will now have to go to the blower resistor/speed controller and find the rest of the problem. Do you have auto or manual controls on you a/c?

All works now, but now pulling a code po740

Sparky

Okay your jumping too far ahead of me. Is the blower motor now working and if so what else was done to correct it? Was the code p0740 ever there before the ignition switch was replaced? Have your driven the truck since replacing the ignition switch? The P0740 code is for the TCC circuit and if seen along with P0750, P0753, P0758 and others the ignition switch could have been the cause. It would likely have to be driven for the other codes to set.

Replaced the ignition switch & that corrected the brake
Light on & the a/c blower now works.
Now the truck had the code po740
& loss of power & shifting

Sparky

If the transmission code and symptoms were not there before replacing the ignition switch then there would be a few possibilities.

The ignition switch is not properly indexed.

There is a blown fuse.

There was an underlying problem with the transmission that could not be detected by the computer system without adequate power from the ignition switch.

Bought a new oem part instead of buying at Kragen.
Everything works perfectly.
You guys are awesome.
Thank you so much
Allen.
